Dataspeed Announces Hypermotive as an Authorized Installer of its Patented Drive-by-Wire Kits

Dataspeed has announced that Hypermotive, a UK-based e-mobility company, will become a certified installation and distribution partner for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Under the agreement, Hypermotive is authorized to sell, support, and install Dataspeed’s patented Drive-by-Wire Kit. The installations can be performed at one of Hypermotive’s UK vehicle workshops, or by a mobile team onsite.

“Hypermotive is a company rooted in vehicle integration expertise, and that engineering craftsmanship has been proven in our recent work together,” said Greg Fleck, Chief Operating Officer of Dataspeed. “With the current travel restrictions and limitations across the globe, this partnership allows for continued, dedicated, and prompt support to our customers across seas.”

“Hypermotive and Dataspeed have worked together on numerous autonomous vehicle builds for customers in the UK and EU, so it’s great to build on those successful collaborations and formalize our relationship going forward,” added Brad O’Nians, Director at Hypermotive. “This exciting partnership combines Dataspeed’s class-leading by-wire products with Hypermotive’s experience in electrical integration, allowing us to offer turnkey solutions to customers looking for autonomous vehicle development platforms.”

The kit is designed as a full hardware and software solution, allowing engineers to control the braking, throttle, steering, and shifting while testing different autonomous vehicle applications. “Traditionally, customers would have to figure out a way to control the throttle, brakes, steering, and shifting by adding external actuators to a one-off vehicle, but that is very time consuming and expensive,” explained Paul Fleck during the Brussels edition of AutoSens in 2019. “Our value is being able to give them a turnkey solution that can interface to the control system of the vehicle so they can focus on autonomous vehicle research and development.”

Dataspeed maintains a growing fleet of European autonomous test vehicle platforms, including the Ford Mondeo, Transit Connect and Ranger, the Polaris GEM and Polaris RZR, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

To date, Dataspeed has designed and fabricated countless sensor integrations, equipped over 500 vehicles with by-wire solutions, and produced highly intuitive autonomous functionality for leading automotive association demonstrations. Dataspeed has worked with startups and Fortune 500 companies alike, along with numerous researchers and universities across the globe.
