Can Cognitive Science Play a Role in the Development of Autonomous Cars?

According to Dr. Mónica López-González, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of La Petite Noiseuse Productions, the answer is yes. “We’ve been systematically researching since the birth of cognitive science in the 1950s,” she said. “We need to take all of that research and put it together with the automotive industry and come up with a map for the future.”

This video explains how cognitive science is “the glue” between disciplines of the mind and brain. Those disciplines, like philosophy, linguistics, and psychology, are valuable counterparts to engineering as we pivot toward more connected, software-defined, and, ultimately, autonomous platforms.

Earlier in 2020, we had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. López-González and learn more about how brain-inspired computing can make self-driving cars safer for the public.
