Renesas & Tata Strategic Partnership to Enhance Semiconductor Solutions for India & Other Emerging Markets

Renesas Electronics Corporation has announced a strategic partnership with Tata Motors Ltd. (TML) and Tejas Networks Ltd. (Tejas), both Tata Group companies. The strategic partnership will focus on designing and manufacturing Renesas’ semiconductor solutions for India and other emerging markets.

Partnership Scope & Goals

As described in the press release, Renesas and TML will collaborate on developing next-generation automotive electronics at scale for software-defined vehicles, including EVs. Renesas and TML will also explore a non-exclusive partnership on emerging technologies such as ADAS.

Meanwhile, Renesas and Tejas will work on new wireless network solutions, including designing and developing semiconductor solutions for radio units used in telecom networks, from 4G to 5G, to open radio access networks to enable flexible 5G RAN deployments. The companies plan to introduce products initially for India, with other global markets to follow.

“We see great potential in collaborating with Renesas in areas like automotive electronics and present and future telecom networks,” said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons. “The collaboration will accelerate our presence in these areas in India as well as globally.”

Development & Innovation Centers

Renesas and Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) will establish a Joint System Solution Development Center in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. The planned innovation center will focus on comprehensive system solutions for the IoT, infrastructure, industrial, and automotive segments by leveraging Renesas’ and TCS’ collective industry experience.

These joint endeavors further extend the companies’ longstanding relationship and build on more recent announcements like the EV Innovation Center jointly established by Renesas and Tata Group’s Tata Elxsi in March 2022.

“Tata Elxsi is a great example of a system integration partner in the automotive ecosystem,” said Daniel Sisco, Senior Director of Digitial Product Strategy at Renesas, during an episode of AutoVision News Radio. “With this joint development center, we can leverage the expertise and capability of Tata Elxsi to support our customers.”
